Charles Henry Obituary

Charles Kenneth Henry, 62 died Thursday, April 30, 2020, at Berlin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born September 28, 1957, to the late Charles Henry, Jr. and Arnetta Collins Derrickson. He was later raised by his stepfather, Russell Derrickson of Berlin.

Charles graduated from the former Worcester High School, where he found the love of his life in 1974, Virginia A. Davis Henry. He graduated in 1975. Charles and Virginia married in 1975. From this union, a daughter was born, Charvonda Henry. Charles enrolled in the United States Army in January 1976. He perfected his skill in the army as a Sharpshooter in the Tactical and Administrative Auxiliary Unit.

Charles worked many jobs over the years. In the 1980s, he worked at Roses Department store. Later, he worked as a male nurse at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin. The remainder of his career was spent as a chef at various restaurants in Ocean City and Ocean Pines. He enjoyed working at the North and South Yacht Clubs in Ocean City. His last job was at Catered Living Senior Assistance in Ocean Pines.

Charles had an extreme love for cooking. His favorite football team was the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens beat his brothers’ and sisters’ team every year. Charles also had a fine love for the Baltimore Orioles. He was known for watching sports all day in his “lazy boy chair.” When not working, Charles would play card games (Tunk) with his family. Charles loved the Lord and his family.

In addition to his wonderful wife of 38 years, Charles leaves to cherish fond memories 2 daughters: Charvonda Henry and Jasmine Purnell, both of Berlin; 2 grandchildren: Joshua and Josie Thomas of Berlin; 5 sisters: Angela Strand, Joanne (Robert) Fisher, Yvette (Tony) Tull, Virginia Derrickson, Denise Lee, and Geneen Morris; 3 brothers: Anthony Henry, Michael (Virginia) Derrickson, and Troy Henry; 6 brothers and sisters-in-law: Gary, Thurman, Ricky, Mildred, Wayne, and Doretha Davis of Salisbury and Berlin; an aunt: Dorothy Wright, and uncle: Gerald Collins; 10 nieces and nephews: Jennifer, Felicia (Juan) Derrickson, Desmond, Kimberly, Timothy, Shanita, Starr, Deondra, Gerneisha, and Brianne; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.
