Obituary

Danny Tyrone Thomas, 77, affectionately known to family and friends as Danny Boy, departed this earthly life at his home on August 8, 2023. He was born on February 28, 1946, in Berlin, Maryland to Henry Holland and Evelyn Thomas.

Danny graduated from Worcester County High School in 1965. He proudly served in the United States Military (Army) from 1970-1974. After an honorable discharge from the Army, he was employed by the town of Ocean City Sanitation Department for several years. He was later employed and retired from
Deer’s Head State Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland.

Danny was an active member of St. James AME Zion church, served as a former trustee and was a responsible and dependable man of faith. He was an avid sports enthusiast, who loved the Baltimore Ravens and watching them play was one of his favorite pastime activities. He enjoyed listening to jazz music and spending time with family and friends. Danny was artistically gifted and during high school was acknowledged as one of Worchester County’s best artists. He took pride in keeping the family vehicles clean, watching movies at home, going to the movie theatre, playing dominoes and taking pictures at family and community events.

Danny was a gentle and warm-hearted man that truly valued the time he spent with family and friends no matter the occasion. He never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a big, welcoming smile. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He leaves cherished loving memories with his devoted wife of 54 years, Dorothy Dennis Thomas of Salisbury, Maryland, children, Dannette Lynn Thomas of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Danny T. Thomas, Jr. (Makieba) of Charlotte, North Carolina, grandson, Lenox Thomas Ashe, sister, Helen Whaley of Berlin, Maryland, aunt, Shirley Boyd of Salisbury, Maryland, sisters-in-law, Laura Purnell and Alice Gould both of Omaha, Nebraska, brothers-in-law, Carl Dennis of Newark, Maryland, Duke Dennis (Janice) of New Castle, Delaware, Archie Dennis of Temple Hills, Maryland, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Henry Holland and Evelyn Thomas.
