Life’s Reflections

Dorothy Elizabeth Gattis-Harris, age 86, was the daughter of the late Otto James Gattis and Nettie Olivia (Dashield) Gattis of Mardela Springs, Maryland. She was born in Mardela Springs, Maryland, on January 11, 1936, and passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional Medical Center, Salisbury, Maryland.

She was a 1954 graduate of Salisbury High School and furthered her education at Bowie University, formerly Bowie State Teacher’s College, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education.

Dorothy was a lifelong member of Mt. Pleasant A.U.M.P. Church, in Mardela Springs, Maryland. She was supportive of all church activities. She taught at Snow Hill Elementary School in Snow Hill, Maryland for over 30 years and retired in 1989. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends.

She is survived by her sister: Rosa Morgan, of Forestville, Maryland; brother: Ronald (Barbara) Gattis, of Clinton, Maryland; bonus sister: Catherine Waller, of Mardela Springs, Maryland, and special friend: Pamela Waters, of Salisbury, Maryland; a host of other extended relatives, cousins, and friends. Dorothy was greatly loved by her family and friends, and she will be deeply missed.

Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents: Otto James Gattis and Nettie Olivia (Dashield) Gattis, were her ex-spouse: Willie Harris; her grandparents: Ware and Emma Gattis and John and Emma Dashield; her aunt: Ada Gattis, who was like a mother to her, and her niece: Rhonda Gattis, all preceded her in death.

1. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. 2. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
