Dorsey Hilliard Jr. Obituary

Dorsey “Bob Jack” Hilliard Jr, 73, of Selbyville, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Saturday April 2, 2022. He was born May 15, 1948, to Dorsey Hilliard Sr.  and Mary Hilliard. Number four to a union of 6 children.

Dorsey received his education in the Sussex County School System and received his diploma from “Delaware High School”.  Though a jokester, Dorsey received several awards for perfect attendance. Following High School, Dorsey enlisted into the Department of the Navy in 1968. There, he would learn several trades but remained concentrated in the food industry. Remembering what his parents had provided within the community, he longed to be a part of that tradition.

Upon returning to civilian life, Dorsey realized his passion. He loved to cook and feed others. He had numerous jobs within the food industry.  Though a great cook he loved collecting the proceeds. He always had another venture to attend. Every year he looked forward to providing meals for migrant camps where he would cook for the workers. They could always depend on a meal from him.

Dorsey loved sports. His favorite team was the Las Vegas Raiders. He was a die-hard fan. If a game was on, Dorsey would to be found in front of the television. Everyone knew to either contact him before or after the game.  Never to interrupt the games and his view of it.

Dorsey is affectionately known as “Bob Jack”, Dad, Daddy, Pop Pop and June. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him death are his parents, Dorsey Hilliard Sr. and Mary Hilliard (passing 22 days prior at 99).  One brother, Lonnie Hilliard Sr. as well as nephews: John Hilliard Jr., Ronald Hilliard, and Brian MacKenzie.  Loving Uncles: David Pope and George, Melvin, Albert, and Isaac Hagans, and nurturing Aunts: Reva Hagans, Sarah Smith, and Minnie Singletary.

While everyone has their own stories of “Bob Jack”, he leaves to carry on a cherished and loving memory, his children: Lorell Sturgis-Clay (Kirk), of Dover, Devonna Davidson (William) of Manassas; Tanya Hovington of Frankford; Dorsey Hilliard III (Karla) of Hughesville, Maryland: grandchildren: Daniel Sturgis of Dover, Harmony Davidson of Manassas, and  Tymeir Hovington of Salisbury, and 2 great “Princess” granddaughters: Amori Russell and Kaylina Hovington.

Brothers with fond memories:  John Hilliard (Rosetta), and Connie Hilliard (Maureen), both of Selbyville; Loving sisters: Annie Handy (Lemuel) of Selbyville De, Reva Bivens (Denver) of Roxana De. and one Sister-in-law, Helena Hillard of Greenwood, DE. Making up three generations is a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.  This is the “Bob Jack” legacy.
