Elizabeth Haven Taylor, born May 21, 1946, in Snow Hill, Maryland departed this earthly life on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Maryland. She was the youngest daughter of the late Frank Sylvester Mason and Carrie Etta Taylor Mason.
She was a 1964 graduate of the former Worcester High School in Newark, Maryland. After this graduation, she traveled to Maine to successfully pursue a degree in culinary arts.
Elizabeth was employed locally by Campbell Soup Company in Salisbury and retired after twenty-five years of service. She subsequently worked for the Berlin Nursing Home as a cook in the Dietary department until her health declined.
She had enjoyed cooking since the early age of ten. She was passionate about her baking and she would graciously donate her cakes to anyone and to any event. Her claim to fame was her “delicious coconut cakes”. She enjoyed the cooking shows on television as well as her local news and her Gospel shows.
Elizabeth was a faithful member of St. James AME Church (Taylor’s Gate) near Snow Hill since 1981. She took great pride in this membership at “her family’s church”. Elizabeth was a dedicated and loyal member; serving in any way God directed her. She had served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 30 years, as well as Sunday School superintendent. She was a class leader, financial treasurer, quarterly conference secretary for the church and served on the Steward Board.
Mom, Mom Liz, Cuz, Lisabeth, Elizabeth, Auntie possessed such a sweet and loving spirit. She carried the love of Jesus with her at all times.
She leaves to cherish precious memories her son David Taylor (Michelle); grandson Darrick Taylor, granddaughter Mariah Taylor all of Hampton, Virginia; one sister, Erma Mason Blake, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; one brother Edwin Thomas Mason, Newark, Delaware; an aunt, Maisie Collins, Snow Hill; a “special niece” Carrianne Watson-Waples Berlin, Maryland, an “adopted” son, Carlos Taylor of Hampton, Virginia; several nieces, nephews and a multitude of cousins, other extended relatives, and friends.
Brothers Leroy Taylor and George Mason preceded her in death.
A private funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon, Saturday, March 28, 2020, at Jolley Memorial Chapel, PA, 1213 Jersey Rd, Salisbury, MD, where the service will be streamed live. A viewing will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm and Saturday, March 28, 2020, from 8:00 am to12:00 noon.
Interment will be in St. James AME Church at Taylor’s Gate Cemetery in Snow Hill, MD.
