Ida Whittington Obituary

Ida Mae Whittington, a loving and dedicated wife, mother grandmother, and great-grandmother was born on August 19, 1920 in Marion Station, Maryland to the late William McKinley Morris and Rosetta Lane.  She departed this life on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Larkin Chase Center in Bowie, Maryland.

She served as a life-time member of Handy’s United Methodist Church.  She sang on the Senior Choir and volunteered her services with the United Methodist Women.  Ida was appointed to serve on various committees within the United Methodist Church i.e., Board of Trustees, Finance Committee, and Staff Pastor Relation Committee.  In preparation for special days as Homecoming and Anniversary, she could be found in the kitchen helping to prepare the food.  She had a passion for cooking great meals.

Ida Whittington was a 90-year plus member of Starlight Chapter 44 Order of Eastern Star Princess Anne, Maryland.  The Chapter from its inception to present, has been visible in the community, visiting nursing homes, volunteering services making donations to Social Services and churches, and visitations to sick and shutins.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Webster Leon Whittington.  They celebrated 60 years of marriage until his death in 1998.  From this union a son was born.

Ida loved to sew, cook, play games and travel.  One of her favorite places was Hawaii.

She leaves to cherish her memories, one son: John W. (Louise). Whittington; two granddaughters: Monique Whittington-Davis, and Renee O. Whittington; one grand son-in-law: Delegate Eugene Davis; one brother: Nathaniel Morris of Baltimore, Maryland; two great-grandchildren: Dereck Eugene Davis. Jr. and Nyla Monique Davis; one sister-in-law: Geraldine Morris and, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

She was preceded in death by two brothers: Thomas Lane and James Morris and two sisters: Evelyn Merrick and Gladys Mason.
