James Dashiell, Jr Obituary

James Edward Dashiell, Jr. better known as "June", and aka "The Mayor", 71, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 17, 2022. He was born in Salisbury, Maryland to the late Laura Francis Dashiell-Goslee and the late James Edward Dashiell Sr.

James attended Salisbury Elementary School before graduating in 1968 from Wicomico Senior High School, where he played hardball (baseball). During his junior and senior years, James also played basketball at Wicomico High School. He then attended Vo-Tech to learn carpentry, and later enrolled in a Computer Skills and Typing class at Wor Wic Community College.

James was employed by Peninsula Goslee Roofing and Oliphant’s Roofing Company in Laurel, DE until he was injured in 1978.

James was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend. He loved music, spending time with loved ones, reading the Bible, being outdoors, traveling, cheering/fussing on about the Ravens, and dropping a few gems on occasion. Most importantly, James loved life. He would often take his grandchildren to the library, mall, zoo, school functions, and relentlessly volunteered in the community.

James is survived by his phenomenal and incomparable partner of 44 years, married for 22, Lenora Morris-Dashiell; 3 children; Sabrina Neal; Shawn (Shametress) Lightfoot and Brante Dashiell; 10 grandchildren: Bre’Ayna Jones, Jazmine Brown, Bre’Ayn Neal, Nasir Neal-Watson, Amirah Neal-Watson, Heaven Lightfoot, Travis Johnson, Donyae Johnson, Jarrell Johnson, and John Norman; 6 great-grandchildren:  Braelon Jones, Kyah Brown, Cali Brown, Kendall Parker Jr, Sarai Parker, and Harlem Neal; one brother, Keith Dashiell; 4 sisters: Marsha Jones, Marilyn Reid, Debbie Fields, Arlene (Robert) Veney; 4 stepsisters: Joyce Hopkins; Vivian Smith, Brenda Morris, Geraldine Goslee; 1 stepbrother, Alfred Goslee Jr.;  1 aunt, Elinor “Baby Jean” Briddell; 2 uncles: William “Bill” Purnell and Clayton Dashiell Sr.; 2 dear friends: Marion “Butch” Banks and Donald “Duck” Corbin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, other relatives, and friends.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his brother Everett “Mac” Dashiell Sr.; his grandmothers: Pauline Dashiell and Virginia Armstrong, and his great-granddaughter, Serenity Jo-Lee Jones.
