James Allen Johnson Sr. (Sonny) was born in Salisbury, Maryland on June 28, 1942. He peacefully departed this earthly life on July 3, 2022, at his home in Chance, Maryland. He was surrounded by his family.
He was the son of the late Dennis Johnson and the late Pauline (Holbrook) Johnson. James was educated in the Somerset County Public School System. He attended Morgan State University. Subsequently, he joined the United States Armed Services and received an honorable discharge after serving two years as a medic. Over the years, James was employed with Vick & Richardson, Proctor & Gamble and Glaxo, Smith & Kline.
James attended St. Charles United Methodist Church in Chance, Maryland, where he was a faithful and dedicated member. He served as a trustee for several years. He was a member of the Veterans Foreign War Lodge in Princess Anne, Maryland, and he was also a 33rd Degree Mason Member of Lodge No. 151, F & AM of Pennsylvania, The Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge.
James’ number one pastime was fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, William Johnson, two wives, Arilee Hunter and Violet McGregory.
Surviving family members include, two sons, James Allen Johnson Jr., of Philadelphia, PA, Keith B. Johnson of Atlanta, GA, one daughter, Denise Osciak of New Jersey, one uncle, Melvin Holbrook of Philadelphia, PA, a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, close friends dear to him, Tommy Shores, Donna White, and Bill and Helena Stubbe of Chance, MD.
