Leonard Livingston Barrett

Leonard Livingston Barrett, 92, of Eden, Maryland, peacefully departed this earthly life on Monday, June 1, 2020, at Salisbury Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Salisbury, Maryland.  He was born September 9, 1927, in Livingston, Jamaica, to the late Zephaniah Alexander Barrett and Louise (Graham) Barrett.

Leonard migrated to the United States as a young man after receiving his formal education in the public-school system in Jamaica, West Indies.

Known as a hardworking man, Leonard worked numerous jobs, but primarily factory and yard work.  For several years, he enjoyed farming and raised pigs and goats when he and his wife lived in Fruitland, Maryland.  At the age of 66, Leonard retired from his employment at the former A & P Supermarket in Fruitland, Maryland.

 He loved children, especially his grand and great grandchildren. He always shared his wisdom and practical Christian living with the children in his life. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Leonard leaves to cherish loving memories his wife of forty-plus years: Virginia Barrett of Eden, Maryland; daughters: Avis (Lennox) Forbes of Brooklyn, New York, Bernice (Melvin) Williams of Salisbury, Maryland, and Renee Edmonds of Camden, New Jersey; son: Lonnie Frank Burke of Princess Anne, Maryland; ten grandchildren: Romeo Forbes, Dean Forbes and Dedra Forbes, all of Brooklyn, New York, Rochelle Williams of Baltimore, Maryland, Lonnie Burkes, Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, Aeisha Burkes, Charde Burkes, and Morielle Burkes, all of Durham, North Carolina, Marcus Burkes and Courtney Burkes of Princess Anne, Maryland; several great grandchildren; eleven siblings; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other extended relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, his son: Winston Barrett preceded him in death.
