God called Pastor Linda C. Dixon home from this present life to eternal rest on Tuesday, June 30, 2020 at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, MD. The daughter of the late Willie B. Hester Sr. and Eva B. Johnson Hester, she was born in Andalusia, Alabama on January 17, 1941. She was married to the late Joe Carter and together they raised 9 children in Snow Hill, Maryland, until his death in 1974.
She was educated in the public schools in Alabama and Belle Glade, Florida. She was formerly employed for several years as an agriculture worker and housekeeper in private homes.
Pastor Dixon was ordained to preach the gospel by the late Dr. M.T. Mitchell at Saint Matthews Baptist Church under the Mutual Baptist Missionary Convention. In September 1983, she founded and pastored Pentecostal Baptist Church in Berlin, Maryland. In 2009, she became the president of the Mutual Baptist Missionary Convention. Under her Pastoral leadership, the church established and ran a soup kitchen, food pantry, clothes closet, school supply drives, outreach programs and helped countless people with financial support over the years. Those outreach ministries helped to feed, clothe, and support hundreds of families on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Delaware, and Virginia both spiritually and naturally.
Pastor Dixon was a prayer warrior and brought her kids up calling on Jesus. Many people, when faced with challenges, legal issues, or family matters, would call her as they knew she could get a “prayer through”. She loved her children, but her grandchildren had a special place in her heart. Even in her last hours, she was still calling each one of their names out before the Lord. This was a lot of names as she was the matriarch of 4 generations.
Pastor Dixon was preceded in death by her parents: Willie B. and Eva B. Hester; one sister: Robert Lee Hester; and two brothers: Harvey C. Hester and Willie B. Hester Jr.; one son-in-law: George Predeoux and two grandchildren: Kimberly R. White and Willie Hester Jr.
Pastor Dixon leaves to cherish fond memories four sons: Willie A (Carrie) Hester of Pahokee, FL, Donald R (Fiancée Tonya) Hester of West Royal Palm, FL, Cornelius Carter of Cambridge, Maryland, and Gary M (Virginia) Carter Sr. of Englewood, NJ; five daughters: Irma J. Predeoux of Ellendale, DE, Eva N (Rocky) Flem of Millsboro, DE, Ila Marie (Allan) Hammond of Snow Hill, MD, Zarah M Gardner of North Charleston, SC, and Carolyn (Michael) Showell of Millsboro, DE; two sisters: Zara Hester and Hattie Mae Hester, both of Belle Glade, FL; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many beloved relatives and friends.
