Marylee Bailey Obituary

Marylee Williams Bailey was born November 10, 1929 in Salisbury, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late Samuel Henry Williams and Omar Faye (Dennis) Williams of Allen, Maryland. On October 8, 2020, the Spirit of the Almighty God touched her precious body, and she peacefully departed this earthly life as she slept at home. Marylee now rests in GOD’S loving arms.

Mrs. Bailey attended Public Schools in Wicomico County, Maryland.  She was a bus contractor employed by Somerset County Public Schools for forty-three years.  Her work gave her enjoyment because she had a genuine love for all children and was proud to be a servant for the Lord.  Her infectious smile and pleasant, easygoing personality endeared many to her, especially children.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Historical Church and Trinity United Methodist Community Worship Center, both located in Somerset County, Maryland. She was continually active in the church and showed tremendous support for a variety of civic and community organizations. Mrs. Bailey served on the Usher Board, attended Sunday School, recited poetry, and participated in countless fundraising events. She loved to read, cook, listen to gospel music, watch westerns, game shows, and work in her beautiful flower gardens.

Mrs. Bailey was affectionately known as “Mom Lee,” by her grandchildren.  She adored and loved her family unconditionally. The wisdom and knowledge she shared was built upon her unwavering trust and faith in God, which she imparted in her family.

One of the highlights of Mrs. Bailey's life was sharing her love with her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends, at her 90th birthday celebration, held at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. She was proud to be mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, cousin, and friend to those whom she loved and treasured. The love that Mrs. Bailey had for her family was only surpassed by her love for the Lord.  She was a praying woman who recited scripture regularly and recognized the magnificent power of God. Her love for God and family is her legacy.

Mrs. Bailey was married to the late James Edward Bailey for forty-eight years and from this union had five children.

She leaves to mourn her transition to a better life, three children: Janet Bailey-Cottman of Baltimore, Maryland, Gregory Wayne-Lee (Bonnie) Bailey Sr. of Delmar, Maryland and Dr. Judylynn (Fred) Mitchell of Salisbury, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended relatives and friends.  Mrs. Bailey also loved and regarded Leroy Stanton of Clinton, Maryland as one of her children.

Mrs. Bailey was preceded in death by other family members who included, her parents: Samuel Henry Williams and Omar Faye Williams of Allen, Maryland; two children: Dwight David Bailey and Michelle Tania Bailey; sisters: Thirkield Tilghman of Princess Anne, Maryland, and Martha Jane McNeil of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; brothers: Dennis Williams, George Henry Williams, John Wesley Williams, Samuel Arthur Williams, all of Salisbury Maryland.

Marylee Williams Bailey will truly be missed by her family, friends and loved ones throughout the entire community.  She was highly thought of, and respected. With her quiet, gentle demeanor she brought happiness to all who knew and loved her.
