Pearl Elizabeth (Winder) Townsend

Pearl Elizabeth Townsend of Delmar, Delaware, peacefully departed this earthly life, Sunday, February 9, 2020, at her home.

Born in Laurel, Delaware, she was the daughter of the late Ozzie and Minnie (Coulbourne) Winder. Her late husbands, Hollis Lee Roberts, Sr. and Greensbury “Pete” Townsend, Jr., preceded her in death.

She received her formal education in the public schools of Sussex County. In 1972, she received her health assistant certification from Sussex Tech.

She was formerly employed as an LPN for Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, Seaford, Delaware; assembly worker at the former Dresser-Wayne Industries, Salisbury, Maryland; cashier for Delmar Liquors, and she was the owner of the former Little Flea Market, an antique shop in Laurel, Delaware.

Pearl also took classes in floral design and would make floral arrangements for the community.

She was a member of the Living Bread Worship Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Her survivors include one son: Hollis Lee (Gloria) Roberts, Jr. of Delmar, DE; five daughters: Barbara Waters of Seaford, DE, Judy (Vaughn) Brown and Cynthia Handy, both of Delmar, DE, Juanita (Rodchill) Pierre-Louis of Jacksonville, FL, and Karen Roberts of Delmar, MD; eight grandchildren: Terrie (Tommy) Aydelotte of Snow Hill, MD, Kashay Fooks of Alabama, Kashown Fooks and Stephanie Revel of Delmar, DE, Tiffanie Roberts of Jacksonville, FL, Lotoya (Antny) Jones of Laurel, DE, Shanita Hargrove of Columbia, SC, and Phylicia (Jared) Lanham of Delmar, DE; twelve great-grandchildren; three special bonus grandchildren: David Jones, Antoine (Danielle) Johnson and Kelley (Eric) Icart; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Seven siblings: James, Raymond, Samuel, William, Howard, Bernice, and Louise Winder, all preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Living Bread Worship Center, 506 E. College Avenue, Salisbury, Maryland. Friends may view Friday, February 21, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Jolley Memorial Chapel, PA, and Saturday at the church, one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in St. Matthew’s First Baptist Church cemetery.
