Valerie Rose Smith

Valerie Rose Smith (79), beloved wife, mother, sister, grand and great grandmother, passed away peacefully at home on Apr. 27, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Newark, N.J., Mrs. Smith was the proud daughter of Thomas and Antoinette (Brzezinski) Markowski.

Valerie was the loving wife of 48 years to the late Robert L. Smith. She was a longtime resident of Cranford, NJ until moving to Princess Anne, MD. In her younger years, Mrs. Smith was employed at Emery Airfreight in Newark, NJ. She enjoyed vacationing each summer at the Jersey shore with her entire family. She would often spend evenings listening to Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash and Bobby Vinton. Surviving is her sister, Arlene Suminski; her loving caretaker and daughter Stephanie DuBrel and son-in-law Louis; grandchildren Robert and William, great grandchildren, Christian and Daniel; daughter Linda, partner Andy, grandchildren Michael, Matthew and Amanda; her son Michael, daughter-in-law Nancy, grandchildren Brendan and Mackenzie.

 In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her sisters: Marianne Markowski and Carole Conklin; and a brother, Thomas Markowski, Jr.

Her family will always miss her kind disposition and smile. Everything made her happy. She never met a person who wasn’t a friend!
