January 26, 2023, Evangelist William James Lewis, Sr., affectionately called “Lewis,” 81, of Salisbury, Maryland, peacefully departed this earthly life to be with the Lord. He was home and surrounded by his loving family.
Evangelist Lewis, the eldest son of the late Olden Lewis and Lola Turner, was born on September 20, 1941, in Accomack County, Virginia. He was born, as the elders would say, ‘with a veil covering his face,’ which reportedly means he was favored by God. As a young adult growing up in Virginia, Evangelist Lewis chooses to serve his country by entering in the Army National Guard. Once discharged, he began a career driving trucks for Showell Farms in Bishopville, Maryland. Subsequently, he became employed by numerous trucking companies, including Liedtka Trucking Company in Baltimore, Maryland.
Evangelist Lewis relocated to Connecticut, where he met his life partner of thirty-plus -plus years, Christeen Sanders. As they began their lives together, Evangelist Lewis was ordained into ministry to serve the Lord. He loved to preach the Word of God and often wrote songs that testified to the goodness of the Lord in his life. He was a member of True Gospel Fellowship Church in Wilmington, Delaware, where he shared in the Glory of the Lord with his brother, Pastor Daniel Lewis.
Evangelist Lewis loved fishing, and when he wasn’t fishing, he loved playing dominos and he enjoyed defeating his opponents. He also loved riding motorcycles and three-wheelers.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving and devoted life partner of thirty-plus years, Christeen Sanders, four children: Vanessa Lewis Blue (Joseph), William Lewis, Jr. (Meisha), Valerie (Lewis) Onley; ten grandchildren: Shakeia Young, Patrice Cephas, Willie Lee Lewis III (Toby), Ja’Corey Lewis, Kadijah Lewis, Kemmie Lewis, Lee Lewis, Jr., and Tyrique Cuffee; twelve great-grandchildren, five brothers, and four sisters: Joseph Lewis (Silvia), Daniel Lewis (Florence), Geraldine Sutton, John Lewis (Jeanette), Burnette Lewis, Diane Lewis, Alexandrea “Alice” Cruz, Bradley Lewis and Thomas Turner; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded by his father, Olden Lewis, mother, Lola Turner, stepfather, William Turner, and a sister, Brenda Smith.
Evangelist William James Lewis will be greatly missed by many.
