Bertha Dorina Dockins

EAST NEW MARKET – Bertha (Bert) Dockins, 90 died Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at PRMC in Salisbury, MD.

Born in Thompsontown, near E. New Market, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Edith (Coleman) Henry.  Her late husband Henry Dockins, Sr. died in the early 80’s.

She was a graduate of the former St. Clair High School in Cambridge where she was a member of their Alumni Association.  She did further studies at a cosmetology school in Baltimore, MD.

She was the owner and operator of SharonDora’s House of Beauty in Hurlock for over 70 years.  She also, along with her late husband, owned and operated Dockins Service Station in East New Market which has been serving the community for over 62 years.

She was a member of Faith Community United Methodist Church in E. New Market where she served as a member of the choir, Trustees, U. M. Women and P.P.R. Committee.

Her community and civic involvement included: 50 year member of the Mary Jane Henry Chapter #54, O.E.S., P.H.A. of Preston, MD, founding member of the DTW (Dorchester/Talbot/Wicomico) a women’s service oriented group; a local beautician association; volunteer of Dorchester Hospital Auxiliary Board and former member of the American Legion Auxiliary/ Blake-Blackston Post #77 of Easton, MD.

Her survivors include three children: Doretha Abraham of Thompsontown; Sharon (Ronald) Pinder and Henry (Dorinda) Dockins, Jr., all of Hurlock, MD; three grandchildren; several great grandchildren, three siblings: Daniel (Delores) Henry of East New Market, MD, Helen Woolford of Baltimore, MD and Mamie Travers of Cambridge, MD; one goddaughter: Evelyn and several nieces and nephews.

Seven siblings preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be held 12 noon, Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Faith Community U.M. Church, 509 Railroad Avenue, East New Market, MD where friends may call two hours prior to service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Fraternal rites will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m.
