Betty Yvonne (Purnell) Lewis

Berlin – Betty Yvonne Lewis, 79 of Berlin, MD, died Saturday, December 3, 2016 at Anchorage Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Salisbury.

Born in Berlin, she was the daughter of the late Clarence R., Sr. and Margie (Jarmon) Purnell.

She was formerly employed at the Berlin Intermediate School cafeteria and retired from the Berlin Nursing Home as a dietician.  She was also a foster grandparent for Shore-Up, Inc. in Berlin, MD. 

She was a member of St. Paul UM Church in Berlin where she served as member of the Happy Club president and of the Voice of Praise.  She was also a member of the Grand United Order of the Household of Ruth, Chapter #3567 in Berlin. 

Her survivors include two daughters: Cloretta Washington of Baltimore, MD and Iva Lynn Lewis of Berlin, MD; five grandchildren,four great-grandchildren, one brother Boyd “JoJo” (Hennie) Purnell and one sister-in-law: Rebecca Purnell, all of Berlin, MD; a host of nieces and nephews, and a devoted cousin and caregiver Joyce Harris of Berlin, MD. 

A daughter Penny Marie Lewis and six siblings preceded her in death. 

A funeral service will be held noon, Saturday, December 10, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin, MD where friends may view on Friday from 6-8 pm and on Saturday, one hour prior to the service.  Interment will be in the church cemetery. Fraternal rites will be held 7:00 pm, Friday.
