Gary Lynn Brittingham

Norfolk – Gary L. (Britt) Brittingham, 65 died Saturday, December 24, 2016 at Sentara Hospice House in Virginia Beach.

Born in Berlin, he was the son of the late Robinson Brittingham, Sr. and Winifred (Purnell) Peters.

 He was a 1969 graduate of Edmondson High School in Baltimore.  Upon graduation he enlisted in the US Marine Corps, serving from 1969-1973, receiving an honorable discharge.  He served in the Army Reserves, later enlisting in the U.S. Navy serving from 1975-1978, receiving an honorable discharge.

 He attended Tidewater Community College earning an AA degree in management and general accounting.  He was formerly employed with the Naval Supply Center, the Naval Environmental Health Center and at the time of his death was a buyer for Hampton Roads Transit.

 He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Norfolk, where he served as an usher.

 His survivors include his wife of 40 years: Mildred R. Brittingham of Norfolk; two daughters: Tiffany (Randy) Cummings of Chesapeake, VA and Dana Brittingham of Norfolk;two "bonus" sons: Keith Brown and Bryan Brittingham;  three grandchildren: Danaeye and twin boys: Charles and Desmond; one brother: Carson (Elaine) Brittingham of Rocky Mt., NC; four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

 Three children: Terri, Melvin J. and Gary L. Brittingham, Jr.; three siblings: Mayebeline Bratten, Preston Smith and Robinson “Pinky” Brittingham preceded him in death.

  A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 30, 2016 at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Berlin where friends may view one hour prior to service.  Interment will be in the church cemetery.
